Brushing & Flossing

Oral Hygiene

It is very important to brush your teeth after every meal. Flossing is also a very important task that needs to be followed through daily. During treatment we do suggest that our patients use a fluoride rinse nightly. Food often gets trapped between your brackets and if not cleaned out can cause gum problems and possibly decay. While in treatment it is very important for our patients to continue to visit their regular dentist at least every six months. It is still possible for the hygienist to clean your teeth.

Eating

In the beginning most people will eat soft food. Your teeth can be sensitive for the first couple of days. We do suggest that you watch certain types of foods during treatment. Raw vegetables, hard meats and hard breads may cause damage to braces. When you start your treatment we offer a list of foods to avoid.
