Who should wear braces?

Braces are worn by both children and adults, not only to improve the attractiveness of your smile but also because braces correct improper alignment of teeth that can lead to gum disease and early loss of teeth.

Braces For Children

Malocclusion is a word very few know about, but many children experience. Malocclusion ('mal' meaning bad and 'occlusion' meaning how the teeth come together) can be cause by thumb sucking and lip biting, but is mainly hereditary in most cases. Malocclusion can take many forms (i.e. overbite, underbite, overcrowding, etc.) that only orthodontic measures can correct. One of the problems with orthodontic treatment for children is time. With school and school activities taking up much of the child's time, we have structured out office hours to offer the convenience needed for proper treatment.

Braces for Adults

Braces are not just for kids! More and more adults are opting for orthodontic treatment. Presently, adults make up 20% to 30% of our patients and this percentage is increasing. Important benefits for adults seeking orthodontic treatment are an improved appearance, increased self-esteem and a much healthier smile.

When should I visit the Orthodontist?

Some orthodontic corrections need to be made early (3 to 4 years of age). Ordinarily, children should be checked by our orthodontist at the time permanent teeth begin to erupt to detect any deficiencies in the child's teeth formation. This is usually at 8-10 years of age. Adults should visit the orthodontist to improve the appearance of their smile, as well as overall dental health. It is never too late to have a beautiful healthy smile.
